Hello,
I'm a fine artist based in Cheshire, painting in oils and acrylic.
I'm a late starter as an artist, having had a long career as a midwife, although I have always drawn and painted a little. I retired early with the intention of focusing more on art, taking an Access to Higher Education course in Fine Art, which was hard work but fun. It led me into a degree in Fine Art, and now onto the gentle beginnings of a new career.
The figure finds its way into most of my work, I am absorbed in how light hits a cheekbone, or the colour of the shadow beneath a chin. The figures, even parts of the figures, and the settings derive from many sources, maybe family or friends, my own photographs, life drawing, or found images from magazines or video, anything that catches my attention. Each painting is pieced together, a patchwork creation that eventually tells me it is done.
My intention is to illustrate the connections we all have. Connections between people, loved ones, our personal and family histories. Connections between us and the landscape, places and treasured possessions.
I want to convey a certain mood in each painting, a touch of narrative, occasionally a hint of fairytale.
